Transfer Credit

This page features information pertaining to transfer equivalencies and Alabama Transfers. Please note that transfer course equivalencies are provided to assist students with determining which course(s) may be accepted at UM, and are subject to change. For transfer coursework to be evaluated, the University must receive official copies of transcripts from previously attended institutions.

The following conditions apply to all transfer work:

  • No more than 60 semester credit hours from a community or junior college may be applied toward meeting UM degree requirements.
  • UM students currently on academic suspension may not transfer coursework to UM taken during their suspension.
  • UM students who fail a course or who are taking a course to improve a grade must do so at UM. Therefore, any such course taken at a transfer institution will not be accepted as a transfer course by UM.
  • All applicable transfer work will be posted to the student’s University of Montevallo transcript. The Registrar’s Office reviews and determines appropriate credit and articulation of applicable transfer work, in consultation with the appropriate department when needed. Transfer work will only be accepted from an institution accredited by the following:
    • Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
    • Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)
    • New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE)
    • Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
    • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
    • WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)
    • Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)
  • Transfer work from another institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education recognized accreditor and also recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) which are not listed above may also be considered.
  • All courses accepted will be included on the student’s official transcript as transfer credit and will calculate into the cumulative overall earned hours and GPA. Students currently on academic suspension may not transfer coursework taken during their suspension.
  • Previous undergraduate college coursework will not be considered for transfer credit if it was earned from any postsecondary institutions that (1) do not offer the baccalaureate or associate degree leading to the baccalaureate degree, and/or (2) are not accredited, as indicated above.
  • Undergraduate courses completed at foreign institutions may be eligible for transfer credit if the institution is either regionally accredited or officially recognized by the appropriate government or regulatory agency in its country. To determine eligibility, students must submit a course-by-course evaluation conducted by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Examples of approved agencies include World Education Services (WES). This evaluation is required for any international coursework to be considered for transfer into a University of Montevallo undergraduate program.

Transient Courses

This section is intended for current UM students who wish to take transient courses elsewhere. If you are a transient student visiting UM from another institution, visit the Incoming Transient or Non-Degree Seeking Students page here.

A student must receive approval from their academic advisor and the Registrar’s Office to register for courses at another college or university. All courses taken as a transient student will be included on the student’s official transcript as transfer credit and will calculate into the cumulative overall earned hours and overall GPA.

  • Enter your information in the fields at the top of the form.
