Account Setup (New Student)

Your UM Username is the first part of your UM email address before the “@” symbol.

Some UM login applications will ask for your username instead of your full email address.

Your UM Email Address is your UM Username followed by @forum.montevallo.edu.

Your email address was mailed to you in your acceptance package and can also be found in your application status portal.

Each student is assigned a unique 8-digit number for identification purposes.

Example: M12345678

This number was included in your acceptance package and is also available in your application status portal.

Your initial password is created by combining your M Number and your 8-digit birthdate.

Example:
If your M Number is M12345678
and your Birthdate is 01/31/1987,
your Initial Password is M1234567801311987

Review the following video to setup your Microsoft 365 account.

• Go to login.microsoftonline.com and sign in using your UM Email Address and Initial Password.
• Follow the prompts to set up two security verification methods.
  • These verification methods are required to use Microsoft’s self-service password reset feature in the future: https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/.

You should update your Initial Password to help keep your account secure before continuing to use UM systems.

• Go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info/password/change
• Enter your new password twice and select Submit.
  • Your new password must be at least 16 characters, must not include your name or username, and cannot contain the @ symbol.
