Account Setup (New Student)

Congratulations on your acceptance! We are excited to welcome you to our campus community.

This page will guide you through setting up your student account, which is required to access essential campus systems and resources such as Email, Canvas, Banner Self-Service Apps, and other services that use your UM credentials.

Before getting started, please review the important UM account terms below and visit the application portal (https://admit.montevallo.edu/apply/status) to obtain your UM email address and M number.

Step 1: Log In & Set Up Security Verification Methods

• Go to login.microsoftonline.com and sign in using your UM Email Address and Initial Password.
• Follow the prompts to set up two security verification methods.
  • These verification methods are required to use Microsoft’s self-service password reset feature via passwordreset.microsoftonline.com.

Step 2: Create a New Password

Before continuing to use UM systems, update your Initial Password to help keep your account secure.

• Go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info/password/change
• Enter your new password twice and select Submit.
  • Your new password must be at least 16 characters, must not include your name or username, and cannot contain the @ symbol.

Duo Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Once you are registered for classes and your account is updated to student status, you will receive an enrollment email in your UM email account from no-reply@duosecurity.com. Duo 2FA adds an extra layer of security to your UM account by requiring a second form of authentication.
