Account Setup (New Employee)

Congratulations on your new employment! We are excited to welcome you to our campus community.
This page will guide you through setting up your employee account, which is required to access essential campus systems and resources such as Email, Canvas, Banner Self-Service Apps, and other services that use your UM credentials.

Important UM Account Terms

Your UM Username is the first part of your UM email address before the “@” symbol.
Some UM login applications will ask for your username instead of your full email address. (Canvas, Dynamic Forms, etc.)
Your UM Email Address is your UM Username followed by @montevallo.edu.
Each employee is assigned a unique 8-digit number for identification purposes.
Example: M12345678
Your initial password is created by combining your M Number and your 8-digit birthdate.
Example:
If your M Number is M12345678
and your Birthdate is 01/31/1987,
your Initial Password is M1234567801311987

Microsoft 365 Account Setup

Go to login.microsoftonline.com and sign in using your UM Email Address and Initial Password.

Follow the prompts to set up DUO Multi-Factor Authentication, which adds an extra layer of security to your account.

Follow the prompts to set up two security verification methods.

These verification methods are required for using Microsoft’s self-service password reset feature via https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/.

You should update your Initial Password to help keep your account secure before continuing to use UM systems.
