There are two paths for majoring in music at the University of Montevallo.

Bachelor of Music (BM)

The Bachelor of Music degree is a conservatory-style, professional training program designed for students that want to focus intensively on music, leading to opportunities post graduation as a professional musician or music educator, or as preparation for continued graduate study in music.

• BM in Performance
• BM in Music Education (Choral or Instrumental)
• BM in Music Technology

Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Music is designed to allow students to focus on Music while allowing them to explore other interests and passions at the university. Students that choose the BA often double major in other disciplines.

Minor in Music

The Music Minor is designed for students who want to major in another discipline but wish to keep studying music. We offer two options for the music minor.

• The Music Studies Minor offers general music study and lessons in a students primary instrument/voice.
• The Music Technology Minor offers a focus on technology, including recording and audio production.

Note: Admission to all majors and minors (except for the Music Technology Minor) requires an audition in the student’s primary performance area.
