Art Majors Scholarships

The Department of Art awards scholarships to incoming freshmen/ transfer students and continuing Art majors. These merit-based scholarships require an application including a statement of purpose and portfolio submission. Applicants must be Art majors to be eligible and these scholarships must be applied for each year. Portfolios should contain a maximum of 10 images and/or links to video/sound art. The scholarship committee is looking for work that indicates who you are as an artist and/ or designer. Your statement of purpose should describe your plans for the future, while at the university or after, and any extracurricular activities that enhance your eligibility for this scholarship.

Who is eligible for the Freshman / Transfer Students Art Scholarship?

Applicants must be accepted to the University of Montevallo before applying for the Freshmen / Transfer Students Art scholarship. To receive the award students must be enrolled full-time and on track for a degree in Art for the entire 2026-2027 academic year. Scholarship monies will be divided evenly between the fall and spring semesters.

    • Identify your work with the title of work, medium, size, and date

Who is eligible for the Current Student Scholarship?

Applicants must be currently enrolled as an Art major at the University of Montevallo before applying for the scholarship within the department. To receive the award, student must be enrolled full-time and on track for a degree in Art.

Available Scholarships

Established in 1991 by the Mullican family in honor of Dorothy Robbins Mullican, an alumna of the University of Montevallo. The scholarship is open to all junior and senior-level art majors. Amount varies. Available to junior or senior are student committed to an art-related career.

Amount varies. Awarded to an incoming freshman or transfer student committed to majoring in studio art and/or art education.

Amount varies. Available to sophomore, junior, or senior’s art students. Awarded based on their portfolio or other evidence of talent and desire to excel in art. A minimum GPA of 2.0.

The Martha Allen Memorial Scholarship in Art was established in honor of a long-time faculty member and alumna in art. Amount varies. Available to all current art majors with financial need, and academic credentials. Quality portfolio required, and a minimum 3.0 GPA

Established in 2017 by Jonathan S. Meacham, in memory of his father, Donald Meacham, and in honor of Professor Emeritus Ted Metz. The scholarship is for new promising art students. Amount varies. Available to students within the College of fine Arts, Preference given to Art majors.

The R. Marshall Pitts Sculpture Endowment Fund was established on January 22, 2008, for current art majors with a preference given to sculpture. Amounts vary.

Established in 2002 current art majors must have completed Art 255 Introduction to Graphic Design. Amount varies. A minimum GPA of 3.0 and a letter of intent are requiring with the application.

Established in 2017 by the generous giving of Art alumni to recognize the forty-two years of distinguished teaching, service, and art by Professor Emeritus Ted Metz at the University of Montevallo. Amount varies. Available to all current art majors who have demonstrated strong commitment and skill in art.

Must have applied and been accepted to the University of Montevallo. Must have a demonstrated financial need for scholarship support. Must be in good standing with  the University. Must be an current art major or minor. Eligibility may begin in freshman year and continue to graduation.

The Virginia Barnes Memorial Scholarship in Art was established in honor of a long-time faculty member and alumna in art. Amount varies. Available to all art majors with financial need. Must be an current art major.
