Mass Communication

Program Types - BA, BS | Concentrations & Minors: Broadcast Production & Multimedia Journalism

B.A./B.S. Mass Communication

The Mass Communication Program teaches the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the fields of television, newspapers, magazines, advertising, video production, radio, corporate or governmental media relations, and digital communication.

Our hands-on curriculum focuses on critical thinking, creativity, effective writing, and adapting to ever-changing technologies — all skills that are vital in today’s media-saturated workplaces.

With two exciting concentrations, Broadcast Production and Multimedia Journalism, our majors can explore new and exciting ways to telling stories to mass audiences. Whether you want to be a TV reporter, sports journalist, or content creator, we will help you build the skills you’ll need to be successful after graduation.

In addition to our major, we also offer several different minors, including Social Media Administration, Digital Filmmaking, and Public Relations. And if you aren’t sure that you want to major in Mass Comm, we also have minors in Broadcast Production and Multimedia Journalism.

Student Learning Outcomes

All students in the Mass Communication program receive personalized instruction through hands-on immersive learning opportunities. As a result of this training, Mass Comm majors in both concentrations will be able to successfully demonstrate the following Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Effectively prepare for the storytelling process.
  • Create stories/content that adheres to industry standards and best practices.
  • Complete storytelling projects by the deadline.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of media law and ethics.
  • Demonstrate a foundational knowledge of media theory and effects.
