Applying for Services

Applying for Services

Registering with Disability Support Services (DSS) will involve completing the steps outlined below.

DSS staff is available at any point during the registration process, or prior to initiating the process, to discuss your needs. For questions related to applying for services, you can contact DSS at 205-665-6250 or dss@montevallo.edu

Step One: Application

First, complete the DSS application to receive accommodations which is available through the DSS Student Portal. In order to complete the application, you must sign in with your University of Montevallo credentials.

Step Two: Documentation of Disability

Submit documentation of your disability to DSS. This documentation can be submitted with your application, via email, via fax, or you can bring it in person.

Step Three: Intake Meeting

Once DSS has received and reviewed your application and documentation, you will be contacted to schedule an Intake Appointment. During this appointment, you will meet with a DSS staff member to discuss individual needs, specific accommodation requests, and review processes related to DSS.

Step Four: Request Faculty Notification Letters

Use the DSS Portal to request faculty notification letters. Additionally, DSS strongly suggests you briefly meet with your instructors during office hours or by appointment to discuss a plan for receiving accommodations in each course.

Step Five: Follow up with DSS as needed

Regularly check the DSS Online Portal and your Montevallo email for important reminders from our office. Contact our office if you have questions or concerns.
