University of Montevallo Named “Best of Bama” by Alabama Magazine

The University of Montevallo has been named the Best School/University in the state of Alabama as part of the 2026 “Best of Bama” Awards by readers of Alabama Magazine, the state’s well-known lifestyle magazine.

UM was selected following a tabulation of votes conducted with the magazine’s readership, revealing its choices for the best of Alabama’s entertainment, restaurants, people and places from the state’s northern border to the shores of the Gulf.

Alabama Magazine noted UM’s status as Alabama’s public liberal arts university and its continued ascension in the ranks of U.S. News & World Report’s list of America’s Best Colleges when it comes to overall education and a lack of student loan debt as criteria readers favored.

The University climbed to No. 6 in Best Value Schools among Regional Universities in the South in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, maintaining its distinction as the only institution in Alabama to earn a top 10 ranking in this category for five consecutive years. UM also reached its highest-ever ranking in the Top Performers on Social Mobility category last year, earning a top 30 spot in the South region.
