University of Montevallo Partnering with The Shelby County Chamber Through Handshake Professional Networking App

October 21, 2026

The University of Montevallo’s Michael E. Stephens College of Business and The Shelby County Chamber are partnering to expand career opportunities for students and strengthen connections between local employers and emerging talent through Handshake, an online career and professional networking platform.

Through Handshake, University of Montevallo students can conveniently search for jobs, internships, career and networking events, as well as other professional opportunities in one centralized platform. Students can explore opportunities that match their interests and career goals while connecting with employers seeking talented candidates.

“This partnership will help Shelby County employers engage directly with University of Montevallo students,” Chamber President & CEO Kirk Mancer commented. Employers can use Handshake to post job and internship openings, promote career opportunities and events — and connect with prospective employees from the University’s student body, Mancer concluded.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for our students to connect with meaningful career opportunities while also helping employers identify the talented students and graduates we have at the University of Montevallo,” said Dr. Sara Robicheaux, Dean of the Michael E. Stephens College of Business. “Our partnership with The Shelby County Chamber and the use of Handshake will strengthen those connections and help create a more direct pathway between our students and the businesses and organizations looking for their next generation of talent,” Robicheaux concluded.

By encouraging greater use of Handshake among both students and employers, Stephens College of Business and The Shelby County Chamber hope to make the process of connecting students with meaningful career opportunities easier, more accessible, and more convenient.

The collaboration also provides an opportunity to strengthen the connection between higher education and the local business community by helping students learn more about employment opportunities available in Shelby County and surrounding areas while giving employers greater access to a pipeline of local college talent.

Employers interested in recruiting University of Montevallo students can contact stephensbusiness@montevallo.edu to get help creating a Handshake employer account. Students interested in learning more about the Stephens College of Business are encouraged to schedule a campus tour or register to attend an upcoming Preview Day for prospective students Saturday, Nov. 7.
