University of Montevallo Celebrates Growing Enrollment Numbers

August 21, 2024

The University of Montevallo has seen an increase in enrollment this fall, posting its highest overall enrollment in several years.

The University began the fall semester on Aug. 21 with a total enrollment of 3,142, which is up about 5.4 percent since the fall 2023 semester. UM welcomed 592 freshmen this semester, its largest freshman class since fall 2012. Graduate enrollment increased 10.6% compared to fall 2023, with an enrollment of 449.

“Our focused efforts on marketing and enrollment over the past several years have yielded remarkable results,” said UM President Dr. John W. Stewart III. “The steady increase in enrollment reflects the exceptional teamwork, dedication and commitment of our Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Studies and University Marketing & Communications teams, among many others. The dedication of our faculty and staff to the students we serve empowers us to attract and retain a growing number of students even in a difficult era for higher education. Our strong academic reputation and world-class faculty continue to set us apart, while the addition of our nursing program and first doctoral offering have been pivotal in driving this impressive growth.”

This increase in enrollment reflects UM’s numerous prestigious accolades for its academic programs and beautiful campus over the past several years, including designation as a College of Distinction for 13 years in a row, multiple Military Friendly School designations and consistently high placement in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges rankings. The University has also frozen tuition since 2018, and it will remain frozen through the 2024-2025 academic year.

Additionally, Montevallo announced new programs coming to campus ahead of the 2024-2025 academic year. The new Nursing Program in the newly established College of Health Professions offers a pre-licensure BSN track and an RN to BSN track. The University hosted a ribbon cutting in February for its new nursing facilities in Myrick Hall, which has undergone renovations to house the Nursing Program. UM also launches its first doctoral program this month — the College of Education and Human Development is now offering a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) degree starting this year with an outstanding cohort of accomplished education professionals, including many UM alums.
