UM named one of top nutrition degree programs in the nation

February 11, 2021

The University of Montevallo has one of the top nutrition degree programs in the nation, according to a ranking recently published by intelligent.com.

The website recently released its 2021 list of  The Top 50 Nutrition Degree Programs  in the nation, and UM’s Exercise and Nutrition Science Program ranked as the top in the South and in the top 15 in the nation out of hundreds of public higher education institution programs.

The 2021 rankings were calculated through a unique scoring system, which included student engagement, potential return on investment and leading third-party evaluations. Each program was evaluated based on curriculum quality, graduation rate, reputation and post-graduate employment.

“The College of Education & Human Development is proud to offer a premier nutrition science Coordinated Program in Dietetics that is fully accredited through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics,” said Dr. Courtney Bentley, dean of UM’s College of Education & Human Development. “At Montevallo, our Coordinated Program is uniquely integrated within the Exercise and Nutrition Science Department, which fully qualifies graduates to make physical activity recommendations as well as offering quality, up-to-date nutrition assessment, education and counseling advice. Our faculty are highly qualified and deeply committed to student success and community wellness.”

UM is one of the few universities in the nation to combine exercise and nutrition sciences into a single degree, preparing students to enter an in-demand career field after graduation.
