Montevallo Strength and Conditioning Concentration Earns CASCE Accreditation

April 29, 2025

The strength and conditioning concentration within the University of Montevallo’s Exercise and Nutrition Science Program has been granted a five-year initial accreditation status by the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE).

This recognition highlights the EXNS program’s commitment to providing students with a comprehensive education that prepares them for successful careers in the strength and conditioning field.

“We are proud to be the first university in the state of Alabama to receive CASCE accreditation,” said Dr. Greg Ryan, chair of the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences. “This speaks to the hard work and dedication of all the faculty in EXNS to ensure that our students receive the highest quality education in the ever-growing field of strength and conditioning.”

CASCE is a nonprofit accrediting agency focused on promoting excellence in strength and conditioning education. CASCE accredits educational programs that prepare students for professional careers in strength and conditioning, ensuring they receive the highest standard of education and training. Effective January 2030, only graduates of CASCE-accredited programs will be eligible to take the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam.

Montevallo’s strength and conditioning concentration is designed to meet the program accreditation standards set forth by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Graduates will be prepared to work in a variety of performance-based locations including universities, high schools, private performance enhancement facilities and professional teams.
