Special Education Master's K-6

The ONLINE Master’s in Special Education (K-6) at the University of Montevallo is designed for those who have a Professional Educator’s Certificate and want to elevate their teaching skills and make a difference in the lives of students with disabilities.

About Our Program

UM’s K-6 Special Education program provides candidates with the tools to fully understand the unique needs of elementary learners with various disabilities. Candidates will learn effective, evidence-based strategies and the latest research on inclusion, multi-sensory literacy instruction, behavior intervention and instructional technologies to support diverse learners.

coursework

All coursework must be completed with a minimum overall GPA of 3.25. SPED 507 required if not previously completed.

Montevallo EDucATOR PARTNERSHIP

Candidates employed by eligible school systems can receive a scholarship of up to $110 per credit hour toward tuition for all program coursework.

Admissions Requirements

  • Online application at montevallo.edu/apply
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2.75 GPA) or graduate degree (minimum 3.0 GPA) from a regionally accredited college/university
  • Alabama professional educator certification
  • Two letters of recommendation

WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS DEGREE?

The K-6 Special Education Master’s program leads to advanced (Class A) professional educator certification to work with elementary-aged students.
