The University of Montevallo offers classes needed for a candidate to fulfill the requirements for a Temporary Special Education Certificate (TSEC) for grades 6 – 12.

About Our Program

The ONLINE Temporary Special Education Certificate (TSEC) at the University of Montevallo is for those who have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher and can be certified to teach special education in grades 6-12.

Bundled Tuition Rate

Candidates are admitted as enrichment/ non-degree seeking students and are eligible for a special bundled, discounted tuition rate. This rate offers applicants a discount of over 25% on regular graduate tuition and fees.

Coursework Overview

All coursework must be completed with the Alabama State Department of Education approved grade to be considered for the TSEC application (please see the ALSDE TSEC application for specific guidance).

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2.5 GPA) or graduate degree (minimum 3.0 GPA) from a regionally accredited college/ university.

The State Department may require additional criteria for the issuance of a TSEC certificate. Please discuss these criteria with your school system.

What Can I Do With this Certificate?

A completed TSEC leads to a Class B teacher certification to teach secondary collaborative special education.
