The Family and Consumer Sciences program is housed in the Department of Health and Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Development. Students can major in Family and Consumer Sciences as well as select a specific concentration if they want to specialize in one area of the discipline; FCS Education, Human Development and Family Studies, and Retail Merchandising.

  • Oldest department on Campus; 1st BS degree at the University of Montevallo granted to a Family and Consumer Sciences graduate.
  • Accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Continuous record of educating Family and Consumer Sciences teachers in the State.
  • Approved Certified Family Life Education program.
  • All students in each concentration complete an internship in the field.
  • Child Study Center:
    • 1st Child Development Center in Shelby County to achieve NAEYC accreditation.
    • Continuous programming for children since 1931.
    • Approved Office of School Readiness (OSR) center.
