Dr. Betty Key is the Director of Nursing Programs at Shelton State Community College. She received both the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Instructional leadership degree as well as the Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing degree with rural case management focus from The University of Alabama. Her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) was earned at the University of North Alabama and her associate degree in nursing (ADN) from Shelton State Community College.

She is currently a Nurse Practitioner.

A native of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Darius is a nursing leader with extensive operational experience and enterprise innovation strategy in nursing and patient care services.
He serves as the AVP of Workforce Optimization and Redesign at Orlando Health and the interim CNO at Baptist Health, Shelby Hospital.
Before joining Orlando Health, Darius served as a service line director for neuroscience and oncology, where he spearheaded several care model innovation projects. He began his career as a neuroscience nurse at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.
Darius earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Alabama, a master’s degree in health administration from the University of St. Francis and a doctorate in nursing practice from the University of New Hampshire. He is a member of the American Organization for Nursing Leaders and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Gabriel Junio Sapalaran, Jr., MSN-PHC, RN, CTC, is a distinguished healthcare professional with expertise in telehealth and case management. Currently, he serves as a Tele ICU Nurse at UAB and RN Case Manager for the Veteran Health Administration. Gabriel is a board member of the Alabama Board of Nursing and a passionate advocate for public health and technology integration in nursing.

Dr. Julie Savage Jones EdD, MSN, RN is a Nursing Instructor with Jefferson State Community College-Clanton Campus, where she has worked for 9 years. She has a BSN degree from Auburn University (1991), MSN in Nursing Case Management for Rural Populations from the University of Alabama
Capstone College of Nursing (2003), and a Doctor of Education degree from The University of Alabama (2016).
Her nursing experience is primarily in Medical-Surgical Nursing.

I am a Registered Nurse working in a Neuro ICU and a proud graduate of the University of Montevallo, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Currently, I am pursuing my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a focus on the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner track.

What I love most about UM is the close-knit community, the supportive faculty who genuinely care about each student’s growth, and the beautiful campus that always felt like home. Montevallo
provided me with a strong foundation both academically and personally—it’s where I discovered my passion for healthcare and developed the discipline, compassion, and resilience needed to serve others.

Kimbrell is currently the Nurse Manager at Encompass Health Shelby County and currently serves on the following committees: Nurse Practice Council, Nurse Shared Governance, Employee Satisfaction Committee, and Wound Care Committee, and the Chair of the Daisy Award Foundation Coordinator. She has a passion for nursing education and is a clinical instructor for nursing students at Jefferson State Community College (Shelby-Hoover campus). She is also working with the University of Montevallo School of Nursing, and they will be doing part of their first nursing clinicals at Encompass Shelby.

LaDonna Gaines, DNP, MPH, RN, CSPI is the Administrative Director of the Alabama Poison Information Center located at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2006, her Master of Public Health from UAB in 2017, and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Samford University in 2020. In her almost 19 years as a nurse, she has worked as a Hematology/Oncology Staff Nurse, Medical Case Manager, and a Specialist in Poison Information. Professionally, she is a member of America’s Poison Centers’ Accreditation Committee, Poison Center Leadership Meeting Planning Committee, the Alabama State Nurses Association, and the American Association of Clinical Toxicologists.

Nurse Manager. BS in Kinesiology from Montevallo. BSN from Loyola University Chicago. MSN & MBA from Purdue University. While at Montevallo, I loved being apart of culture that was created, especially within the athletic department. Montevallo gave me the opportunity to move to a different state where I was able to form connections and grow professionally in my health care career.

BS in Child Development/Child and Family Studies c/o of 2008. I was a Pre-K teacher with the Alabama First Class Pre-K program in Montevallo for 10 years. UM was a great experience. I loved the campus and have a lot of great memories.

I love the spirit of Montevallo, the uniqueness, and the cozy feel of campus. I enjoyed the beautiful brick streets, studying on the quad or hanging out with my friends. College Night was always one of my favorite activities and I still love telling people about it who have never experienced it. GV, Gold Side!
