In order to support the goal of improved student learning in schools, the mission of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is to prepare candidates to develop and refine knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes appropriate for teaching kindergarten through grade twelve. Emphasis is placed on sound decision making developed through a continuum of experiences and through reflections on those experiences. Through interaction in diverse classroom settings, integration of research and professional literature, exploration and meaningful implementation of current technology, and collaboration with school personnel through laboratory field experiences, candidates mature in the process from novice toward expert.
