Student spotlight – Jonathan Everheart

February 25, 2021

University of Montevallo senior musical theatre major Jonathan Everheart doesn’t shy away from tackling a challenge, even if it’s something no other student at the University has faced before.

As a 2021 Gold Side leader along with Abby Jo Askins, Everheart was tasked with continuing the College Night tradition during the most unusual of times due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Because of the creativity Everheart has honed during his time at UM, he and Askins were able to partner with Purple Side leaders Lavaun Thompson and Brey Hamblin to plan a joint Purple-Gold College Night performance for this year signifying the unity Montevallo students have shown over the past year.

“During these troubling times, the spirit of College Night has continued to shine through. As far as combining the sides goes, the unity between the two sides has truly been an incredible experience that no other set of leaders has gotten the chance to be a part of,” he said.

Working to continue the University’s longstanding Homecoming tradition is just the latest in Everheart’s legacy of involvement at UM. During his time on the bricks, he has served as an orientation leader, a Maven tour guide, a M.A.D.E. ambassador, with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., with the National Pan-Hellenic Council and has been an active Gold for multiple years. He was elected as Mr. Montevallo by his peers in February.

Everheart’s time at UM has laid a strong foundation for his future acting career, which he plans to pursue in Atlanta after graduating this May.

His spark for getting involved on campus was ignited the first time he attended the College Night Mixer as a freshman, and his feeling of belonging at Montevallo has not diminished since.

“Something I will never forget is my four years here,” Everheart said. “The people, the campus, the community all of it is something that will always feel like home to me.”
