UM Foundation

The University of Montevallo Foundation provides boundless opportunities to the students, faculty and staff at the University, through scholarships, academic and programmatic support, enriching experiences and capital campaign/project support.

The University of Montevallo Foundation was established in December 1973, incorporated in 1974, and is a 501(c)(3). The Foundation is guided by a Board of Directors made up of community leaders, alumni, and various supporters.

Mission and Impact

Mission Statement

The University of Montevallo Foundation operates to advance the mission of the University of Montevallo in all its educational, instructional, service, charitable and outreach endeavors. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to receive, solicit, accept, hold, administer, use, invest, endow and disburse private philanthropic gifts, bequests, devises, and all types of property for the exclusive benefit of the university.

Impact in FY24

• 1655 scholarships to University of Montevallo students
• +$803,000 in academic support (educational seminars and materials)
• +$970,000 in equipment and other supplies for various programs to University of Montevallo, including a grant to the university’s alumni association to help it carry out its programs

Financial Info, Stewardship and Compliance

Financial Info

The University of Montevallo Foundation, its board, and its staff value good governance practices to ensure its mission is fulfilled and its resources are utilized appropriately.

Each year, the UM Foundation files a 990 with the Internal Revenue Service to report its expenses, revenues, assets, practices, and program updates. This annual submission is reviewed by the Foundation’s audit committee and then the full board of directors before it is filed.

Donor Stewardship

The University of Montevallo Foundation values each donor and each gift. Staff and board respect the donor rights outlined by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and other groups. To see those rights, click here.

Compliance

UM Foundation board members annually sign various policy statements that include a conflict-of-interest declaration, which discloses any possible conflicts with the business of the entity, and a confidentiality statement that protects donor information if discussed.
