My name is Tomeiko Scott and I am the director of disability support services and the 504/ADA compliance officer.
Where are you from and what city do you currently reside in?
I am from Fairfield, Alabama. I live in Calera, Alabama.
If you hold any degrees, what are they in and from what schools?
I have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood/elementary education from the University of Montevallo. I have a master’s in school psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have a doctorate in psychology, specialization in educational psychology, with a concentration in child and adolescent development from Capella University.
How long have you worked here?
I have worked at the University of Montevallo for a little over two years. I was previously the assistant director of Disability Support Services and prior to that position, I was the academic coordinator for TRIO Student Support Services.
What brought you to Montevallo?
I was attracted to UM’s reputation for providing a broad, foundational education along with a small student population and a tight-knit community with dedicated faculty.
What’s the best thing about working for Montevallo?
As a prospective student, I was impressed with the University of Montevallo. Because of my decision to attend UM, I am a well-rounded, purpose driven, life-long learner. I am beyond thankful and grateful for the education, preparation and life experiences afforded to me during my time at UM. As a proud alum, it is a great honor and a privilege to be a part of this memorable experience for students as an employee of the University of Montevallo. For me, working at the University of Montevallo is coming full circle. It is coming home.
Do you have any interesting stories about one of your favorite experiences here?
I met my husband at freshmen orientation.
What’s your proudest accomplishment since being at UM?
I recently earned a Ph.D. However, I am most proud of the students my department has reached and establishing a good bond with fellow colleagues and employers.
Why do you belong at Montevallo?
I can identify with the personal and collective identity of the University of Montevallo. I believe in the safe space for personal growth that UM provides. A place where people come from different perspectives and backgrounds and create a deeper understanding by combining knowledge to accomplish more than a single person could accomplish.
