Clent Davis Named New Head Coach of University of Montevallo Fishing Team

April 27, 2026

The University of Montevallo is pleased to announce the hiring of Clent Davis, the new head coach of the UM bass fishing team. Davis will be formally introduced at a press conference Thursday, April 30 at 12 p.m. at Central State Bank Arena at the Robert M. McChesney Student Activity Center.

Davis is a 2009 graduate of the University of Montevallo with a double major in history and kinesiology and has spent the past 14 years as a professional angler on the top fishing circuits in the world. Davis has received many accolades as a professional angler, including Rookie of the Year in the FLW, Forest Wood Cup Champion and multi-time Bassmaster Classic Qualifier, while amassing more than $1 million in career earnings.

Davis started the bass fishing team at Montevallo as a student and the program he was part of from the very beginning has won the past five Bass Pro Shops School of the Year titles presented by Abu Garcia as the top fishing program in the country. As a student, Davis led the Falcons to the prestigious Southern Collegiate Championship, which at the time was the most prestigious college championship in bass fishing.

Davis credits his roots at UM for his professional success.

“I met Justin Lucas through college fishing, and he was trying to find a place to move into down here,” Davis recalled in an interview with Bassmaster in 2019. “He lived at my house for about a year and talked me into fishing a regional event as a co-angler. I entered my first regional event in 2010 and was very successful out of the back of the boat. The next year (2011), I fished the FLW Tour as a co-angler and won Pickwick, which made me enough money ($25,000) to pay my way into the front of the boat for the next year, and that’s how I fished my first year of the FLW Tour.”

Davis was a recipient of the University of Montevallo’s National Alumni Association Top 15 Within 15 class in 2024 recognizing outstanding young alumni.

Davis is married to his wife Ashley, and the couple has one daughter, Kayt.
