Art Galleries

Presenting Contemporary art demonstrating the diversity of current artistic practice, the Art Department manages two galleries on campus – the Gallery at Bloch Hall and the Poole Art Galley in the Alan and Lindsey Song Center for the Arts. Collectively we present four professional exhibitions and multiple student BFA exhibitions each year.

The galleries support our curriculum and are a significant public venue for the visual arts in the Montevallo community and in Shelby County. Most exhibitions include a reception with an artist’s or curator’s talk.

The galleries are free and open to the public.

Theaters

The Alan and Lindsey Song Center for the Arts houses two performance theaters. The DiscoverShelby Theatre is a 300-seat theatre that features a full fly system, modern LED lighting, and a fully digital sound system, and the Michael and Sue Meadows Black Box Theatre is a flexible 1700 sq. ft space, featuring professional sound and lighting systems and removable seating platforms.

Palmer Auditorium

Palmer Auditorium is the largest performance venue on campus with over 1200 seats. The Music Department Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble perform here, and music hosts several honor band and summer camp activities in the auditorium. Palmer is also the home of College Night, one of the longest continuously running collegiate homecoming traditions in the United States.

LeBaron Recital Hall

LeBaron Recital Hall is an intimate 100-seat performance space for the Music Department. The space is ideal for solo and chamber recitals, and the hall features a full pipe organ.

Mass Communication

Our Mass Communication department operates in a state-of-the-art control room and television production facility. Students in the program produce regular newscasts throughout the year, as well as produce, direct, and operate live broadcasts for Falcon Athletics.

Art Production

The Art Department features several art-specific spaces on campus, including large drawing and painting studios and the 3D Arts Complex that features spaces for pottery, wood working, welding, and casting.

Theatre Production

The Alan and Lindsey Song Center for the Arts features dedicated space for the Theatre Department’s scenic and costume shops. The building also features a dance studio and lighting lab.
