Undergraduate Retention Rate

The University monitors undergraduate retention in accordance with Theme 2: Focus on Growth of University’s Strategic Plan 2021-2026 (expanded to 2027) that includes developing and implementing initiatives to increase University student retention.

The interactive table below shows current and historical retention rates for all students and for students based on membership in various categories.

As the goal is to seek to increase student retention rate, the current targets and the minimal threshold of acceptability are informed by trends in the data and are aspirational based on mission and capacity. Retention rate is the percentage of first-time, first-year undergraduate students who continue at UM the next year.

  • Target Retention Rate – 75%
  • Minimum Threshold of Acceptability – No more than a 5% drop in retention rate over two years.
