Upcoming Changes to Duo Authentication Methods
We will be making an important update to our authentication process to enhance security and streamline user experience.
Effective August 1, 2026, SMS passcodes and Duo Mobile passcodes will no longer be supported as authentication methods within Duo. These methods are being retired in favor of a broader shift toward more secure authentication methods.
What does this mean for you:
  • You will no longer be able to use text message (SMS) passcodes to authenticate.
  • Duo Mobile-generated passcodes will also be discontinued.
What you should do:
Please ensure you are enrolled in one of the supported authentication methods, such as:
  • Duo Mobile Push notifications via the Duo App (Recommended)
  • Passkeys – credentials that are created using the following authenticator types and used for phishing-resistant authentication to web applications.
    • Platform Authenticators, such as Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello
    • Roaming Authenticators – a hardware security key
  • Hardware tokens
If you are not currently set up with a supported method, we strongly recommend updating your settings as soon as possible to avoid any disruption to your access. You can manage your devices here: https://montevallo.login.duosecurity.com/devices
