University Launches New Montevallo Means More Campaign

August 18, 2025

University of Montevallo alumni have a connection with its beautiful campus and incredible experiences that last a lifetime.

Richard D. Cummings ’74, Ph.D., S. Daniel Abraham professor of surgery and chief of the division of surgical sciences in the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston, fondly remembers his alma mater as “a magical place.”

Taylar Posey ’06, M.Ed. ’11, Ed.S. ’13, principal at Riverchase Elementary School in Hoover, Alabama, said “I honestly wish I could go back every day.”

Lindsay Shippey ’13, a corporate banking finance manager at Regions Bank in Birmingham, said her experience in the Stephens College of Business “connected me with the right people” on her professional journey.

Countless conversations over the years have made one thing clear — Montevallo is more than an institution. It is a community committed to cultivating leaders, thinkers and doers.

Simply put, Montevallo Means More for those who’ve experienced life on the red brick streets. UM is proud to announce this central theme as its newest campaign slogan.

Montevallo Means More is not just a slogan — it’s a narrative that weaves together the intrinsic and extrinsic values that Montevallo offers to each student. This campaign is predicated on the idea that choosing Montevallo is not merely a pragmatic decision, but an investment in one’s future self and the collective future of our society.

In a world increasingly driven by flux and complexity, higher education must do more than convey information. It must build bridges among disciplines, cultures and communities.

Montevallo Means More asserts our role at the forefront of this challenge. It champions the idea that our university is not just a place to learn, but a place to learn more — about oneself, about one’s field and about the interconnections that weave our world together.

Montevallo Means More highlights the profound personal transformation that UM fosters. It’s more than an education. It’s a pivotal life experience. This campaign intends to articulate the specific, tangible benefits that Montevallo offers — personal attention, job opportunities and a diverse array of majors.

At Montevallo, we recognize that education is a critical pillar in shaping not only what individuals know but who they become. Montevallo Means More encapsulates the journey of self-discovery that education encourages. It is about expanding horizons, challenging preconceptions and stimulating personal growth. Montevallo is not just a place where students learn — it’s where they are transformed.

By saying Montevallo Means More, we are affirming our commitment to creating an environment that values deep inquiry and meaningful impact. Each class, each program, each interaction is designed to contribute not just to the intellectual growth of our students, but to their capacity to influence and innovate in whatever paths they choose.

This campaign theme embraces the diversity of aspirations and backgrounds our students bring, acknowledging that each journey is unique and each contribution valuable. The open-ended nature of Montevallo Means More invites each member of our community to define what more means to them.

Be it more personal attention, more opportunities for research, more connections in the global job market or more ways to engage with global challenges, Montevallo provides a canvas on which students paint their futures.
