Department of Social Work and Speech Pathology

Our Mission

Students interested in our Department’s majors will find exciting opportunities in the fields of Social Work and Speech Language Pathology. Our Social Work Program curriculum prepares students for beginning generalist social work practice and is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Speech Language Pathology Program offers a curriculum at the undergraduate level to prepare students for graduate degrees in speech language pathology or audiology. The Speech Language Pathology Program’s graduate curriculum is designed to produce highly qualified and highly skilled professionals in the field of speech language pathology. The Master of Science (M.S.) education program in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Montevallo is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Students may also choose to work as a speech language pathology assistant with a bachelor’s degree.

The Social Work and Speech Language Pathology Programs officially joined together as the Department of Social Work and Speech Pathology in the Fall of 2025. At the same time, the Department joined the University’s College of Health Professions. Our programs are excited about these changes and look forward to continuing to serve our students and prepare them for their rewarding professional careers.
