Alana Hataway Barranco

Representative of the Second Congressional District

Alana Hataway Barranco is a native of Montgomery, AL. She was appointed to the Board of Trustees by Gov. Kay Ivey in 2025. She earned both her Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health at the University of Montevallo.

While at UM, Barranco was an engaged student. She served as Student Government Association President and was selected as the state-wide speaker for Higher Education Day. She was elected Greek Woman of the Year, Ms. Montevallo, and held multiple offices in Alpha Gamma Delta. She was active in College Night serving as the Purple Side athletic chairman for several years.

After graduation, she was employed by UM in the Office of Student Life, where she advised student organizations such as SGA, Fraternities and Sororities, Intramurals, and all other clubs.

She is currently the High School and College Counselor at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School where she works closely with students and families guiding them through the college admissions process, academic planning, and career exploration. She is also current on trends related higher education policy, majors, and employment.

She and her husband, Ben, live in Montgomery and have three children- Thomas, Jude, and Margaret. They are active members of their church as well as other local community organizations.
