University of Montevallo College of Health Professions Receives $1 Million in Federal Funding

February 20, 2026

The University of Montevallo recently received $1 million appropriation for its College of Health Professions following the passing of the 2026 fiscal budget for the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services by the United States Congress.

U.S. Senator Katie Britt led efforts to help with the funding, which will allow the University to purchase equipment and supplies to support the education of the next generation of health care leaders in the state of Alabama.

“Investing in education is an investment in Alabama’s future, which is why I’m proud to have secured funding for the University of Montevallo — especially given a growing demand for health care professionals in our state,” Britt said. “This funding will support the growth of the program and result in more Alabamians receiving quality health care, something that has been a priority of mine from the beginning of my tenure in the Senate.”

The University launched its new nursing program in fall 2024 and has experienced rapid growth in the number of applicants seeking to enter the program. UM currently has more than 80 students enrolled that have declared their intention to pursue a nursing degree.

The University will use the funding to enhance the training provided to students by purchasing leading-edge technology for the classroom, including an advanced 3D interactive human anatomy simulator to enable students to visualize and interact with anatomy and physiology principles in a more immersive way.

“We are grateful to Senator Britt for securing federal funding to support our equipment and technology needs, thereby strengthening our capacity to serve students in health-related programs, including our growing nursing program,” said Dr. Crystal Bennett, dean of the UM College of Health Professions. “This funding enables us to purchase state-of-the-art lab and simulation equipment, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that better prepare them for their professional careers.”
