UM Warrior Challenge to offer obstacle course & family fun to benefit Arc of Shelby County

The Warrior Challenge, a 1-mile obstacle fun run, will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Montevallo Disc Golf Course, located near the McChesney Student Activity Center.

The Warrior Challenge was created in 2017 by UM professor Aimee Mellon and her students as a family-friendly event for charity. This year, students in professor DeAnna Smith’s Entrepreneurship & Sustainability class organized the challenge.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Arc of Shelby County which serves more than 1,000 individuals with developmental disabilities in Shelby County each year.

“Thanks to the efforts of DeAnna Smith and her students, the Warrior Challenge will raise both awareness and funds to support the programs and services that we provide to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families,” said Jennifer Ellison, director of development for The Arc of Shelby County. “We are especially grateful when we have the opportunity to collaborate with partners in our community and we are so thankful for our ongoing partnership with the University of Montevallo. We are looking forward to a great event!”

Throughout the day there will be fun activities available for spectators, including free kids’ activities, as well as food and entertainment. A swag bag with a t-shirt, 10 carnival game tickets and other items may be purchased at the event.

Visit the Challenge’s page to register and learn more about the individual obstacles. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for college students and $10 for children.
