University of Montevallo to hold conference on multicultural education

MONTEVALLO—The University of Montevallo will host the third annual Alabama Region 4 National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) conference Friday, March 29, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., in Anna Irvin Hall on the UM campus. The conference is sponsored by UM’s College of Education, Social Work Program and chapter of NAME in partnership with SafeZone and the David Mathews Center for Civic Life.

Featured speakers will include Jamie Nabozny, whose story is depicted in the film Bullied, and Chris McCauley, executive director of the David Mathews Center for Civic Life. Experts in the field of multicultural education and civic engagement will explore key dispositions and strategies for working with diverse populations.

Teachers and social workers may receive eight CEU credits, and counselors may receive eight LPC credits. The cost of the conference is $25 for students, $45 for NAME members and $65 for non-NAME members. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. UM Concert Choir completes international concert tour of United Kingdom and France
