University of Montevallo rises in U.S. News & World Report rankings

The University of Montevallo again rose in the rankings of “America’s Best Colleges,” published by U.S. News & World Report. According to the 2014 rankings, released Sept. 10, 2013, Montevallo is once again ranked as the No. 1 public master’s-level university in Alabama, a distinction it has held each year since 2008.

For 2014, Montevallo is listed as the 15th best public university in the South in its division and 36th overall in the South, up 23 spots from its 2007 ranking. Schools in 12 states make up the South geographic region.

Montevallo earned high marks for academic reputation, freshman retention rate, graduation rate, entering freshmen test scores, small class sizes and low student-faculty ratio.

In addition, UM was ranked 7th in the region for best undergraduate teaching, as identified by college presidents, provosts and admissions deans.

“We are always pleased when the success of our students and the accomplishments of our dedicated faculty and staff are recognized,” stated Dr. Michelle Johnston, senior vice president for administrative affairs at UM. “Along with our designation as the only public university in Alabama tapped as a College of Distinction and our recent endorsement by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a “Great College to Work For,” the U.S. News & World Report rankings continue to affirm our quality and value.”
