University of Montevallo professors’ works featured by ASO

MONTEVALLO—University of Montevallo associate professor of music Joseph Landers will have three compositions featured in Contemporary Visions, the next concert in the Concertmaster and Friends series by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. The performance will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m., in Brock Recital Hall at Samford University.

Included on the program are Landers’ Serenata Quasi Una Notturna for violin and piano and Some Melodious Sonnet for flute and piano. The world premiere of his composition, Divertimento a Quattro, for violin, flute, piano and percussion will be performed as the final work on the program.

UM professor of music emeritus Edwin Robertson’s Saints Fantasy for violin and piano, written specifically for the Concertmaster and Friends series, also will be performed.

Other premier works include Ki-Go by Sarana Chou of Samford University and Sungate by Romanian-Canadian composer Dora Cojocaru.

Featured performers for the concert include ASO concertmaster Daniel Szasz, violin; UM professor emeritus Anthony Pattin, piano; Lisa Wienhold, flute; and Jay Burnham, percussion/timpani.
