University of Montevallo alumna honored with scholarship

MONTEVALLO—The Shelby County chapter of the University of Montevallo National Alumni Association recently recognized Emma Dean Huston Nathews for her contributions to the university and the UMNAA by naming the scholarship awarded by that chapter in her honor. In a resolution adopted April 24, the award was named the Emma Dean Huston Nathews Shelby County Alumni Scholarship.

Nathews graduated from UM in 1962 and has been an active alumna in the years since. She has been instrumental in organizing and preparing for many alumni events through the years. The resolution recognizes her as “a generous donor, an energetic volunteer, and a good and gracious friend.”

Nathews recruited her children and grandchildren, as well as other Shelby County students, to attend the University of Montevallo, and in 2006, received the Alumna Loyalty Award from the UMNAA.
