MONTEVALLO—The University of Montevallo will host the fifth annual Alabama Region 4 National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) conference, “Beyond Translation: Building Capacities for Cross-Cultural Communication,” Friday, March 13, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., in Anna Irvin Hall on the UM campus. The conference is sponsored by UM’s College of Education, Social Work Program and chapter of NAME.
Featured speakers will include Dr. Miguel Mantero, professor of educational linguistics at the University of Alabama, and Isabel Rubio, executive director of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama. Experts in the field of multicultural education and civic engagement will explore key dispositions and strategies for working with diverse populations.
Teachers and social workers may receive eight CEU credits, and counselors may receive eight LPC credits. The cost of the conference is $45 for NAME members and $65 for non-NAME members. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
