Beginning Saturday, Feb. 11, the University of Montevallo will once again offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Offered now for six consecutive years, the service allows low-to-moderate income citizens to get their taxes filed for free by certified student volunteers. This no-cost method also offers invaluable experience for student volunteers.
The VITA program will be offered in Morgan Hall room 202 each Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until April 15. Those seeking to utilize the service are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 205-665-6531.
During each appointment, clients will need to bring a photo ID, social security number for each family member and working adult, W-2s and other income forms, childcare provider name, address, tax ID and bank routing and account numbers for checking and savings accounts. Other helpful information includes any deduction details (medical, property tax), tuition expenses or student loan interests.
