The University of Montevallo will be offering a variety of camps this summer, both academic and athletic. Academic camps are offered for ages 10 and up, while athletic camps offer options for ages 5 and up. All camps are housed on the historic UM campus.
· ACT Prep Camp May 30 – June 2
This camp will provide students with test taking strategy for each section of the ACT test. One point can be the difference in receiving a scholarship!
· Residential Computer Coding Camp June 5 – 9
This camp is designated for Gear Up students only. Participants must currently be in the 8th or 9th grade and registered at a Gear Up school. This beginning Computer Coding Camp is designed to engage campers in activities that will introduce them to coding and help them understand how coding concepts can relate to critical thinking skills. This is an introduction to coding.
· Mural Camp June 5-9 and June 19-23
UM, in partnership with the Montevallo Arts Council, is excited to bring back Mural Camp for students who are entering 5th through 12th grades and are interested in creating art in a community setting.
· Alabama High School Theater Camp June 11 – 16
This state-wide residential camp will provide a process-focused approach, engaging several areas of theatre to train young high school actors of all levels. Students will have the opportunity to learn musical theatre audition skills, acting for television and film, vocal skills, and to explore design/technology areas such as make-up, lighting, welding or 3-D printing; all while developing their confidence and skill sets!
· Earth and Sky Camp June 19 – 23
This camp is designated for Gear Up students only. Participants must currently be in the 8th or 9th grade and registered at a Gear Up school. The E&S Camp is designed to engage campers in activities that help them understand how to protect and preserve natural resources and how those resources contribute to a higher quality of life for all.
· Young Musicians Camp June 18-23
The University of Montevallo Young Musicians’ Camp provides middle and high school-aged band, choir, guitar, piano students and those interested in music technology with superior musical instruction combined with the fun and friendship of a great summer camp. A variety of ensemble and master class experiences are conducted by our internationally recognized UM music faculty and guest artists. Evening activities include swimming, cook-outs, movies, mixers, field sports and recitals.
· University of Montevallo Art Discovery Day June 23, 2017, 9:00am – 4:00pm
The UM College of Fine Arts’ Department of Art proposed the Art Discovery Day. This one day camp will provide high school students an integrative, intensive workshop in the visual arts. Sessions are designed to assist students with building fundamental skills while developing creativity in preparation for the first-year experience of college art programs. Sessions will include descriptive drawing, using Photoshop InDesign, art awareness and learning how to prepare a portfolio for submission to higher education institutions.
The first 10 students to register will use the code: “Participants in Congressman Palmer’s Congressional Art Competition” to receive a 30% discount. This discount has been made available to further the relationship with Congressman Gary Palmer’s Congressional Art Competition.
· Non-Residential Coding Camp July 17 – 20
This beginning Computer Coding Camp is designed to engage campers in activities that will introduce them to coding and help them understand how coding concepts can relate to critical thinking skills.
This is an introduction to coding.
Throughout this one-week event, campers will participate in stimulating, hands-on, educational activities on the University of Montevallo campus. Activities will be led by university faculty with assistance from UM student counselors and activity coordinators. This camp is well suited for students with very little to no experience coding
Cost – $225
