Student Spotlight: Morgan Leonard

Growing up in Chilton County, UM junior Morgan Leonard’s teachers at Isabella High School had a major impact on shaping her into the woman she is today.

Now, as an elementary education with collaborative teacher certification major at the University, Leonard is looking forward to doing the same for the next generation of Chilton County students.

“With elementary education, it goes beyond just loving kids,” Leonard said. “I had a lot of teachers throughout my high school years at Isabella really impact me through the time and effort they put into me, and it helped me become who I am today. I want to give back in the same way they gave to me.”

While she is working toward earning her degree, Leonard is also heavily involved on campus. She is a cheerleader, is involved in the Baptist Campus Ministry worship team, works in the UM president’s office and is an RA in Main Hall.

“I get really good professional experience through all of that,” Leonard said of staying active on campus. “I love working in the president’s office because of the people. I’ve gotten to meet a lot of higher-ranked people at the University and learn how down-to-earth they are and how much they love the students.”

From the moment Leonard set foot on Montevallo’s picturesque brick-lined campus, she knew she belonged.

“I feel like for me, it was the people. To come to Montevallo where everyone is so welcoming and everyone loves you for who you are, that really means a lot to me,” she said. “We all get along like one big family, and I really enjoy being here. It’s just home.”
