Senior English student Laura DeRocher will lead The Tower in the 2018-19 academic year.

The Tower is the student literary and arts magazine at UM. It welcomes creative works of all types from students across campus. It has been the campus arts magazine since 1932.

DeRocher is an English major and an upcoming senior at the University.

In addition to her new position with The Tower, she has served as layout editor and contributing writer for the campus newspaper, The Alabamian. Derocher is also an active member of the University’s Honors Program.

Beyond making the final call on what will be featured in the magazine, DeRocher will help assemble the book, choose staff members and plan events.

“I’m so excited! I have a lot of really cool plans for this upcoming year that I can’t wait to share,” said DeRocher. “I know I’m going to have tons of fun with this job, and I’m really happy to be making something that’s such an important part of the school’s history.”
