Due to a winter storm warning, this event has been rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13.
An open forum with students on “Living as an Artist in New York” will now take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in Reynolds Studio Theatre.
A free public reading from Nguyen’s play Men of Steel and a talk with Nguyen is set for 7 p.m. in LeBaron Recital Hall. A reception will follow in the Fraser Seminar Room in Davis Hall.
The Dancy Lecture Series will bring playwright Qui Nguyen to the University of Montevallo campus for events scheduled Feb. 11 and 12.
Nguyen is co-founder of the OBIE Award-winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company of New York City. His work, known for its innovative use of stage violence, puppetry and multimedia, has been lauded as “wildly inventive,” “infectious fun,” and “tour de force theatre” by The New York Times, Variety and Time Out New York.
This past season, The Chicago Tribune praised Nguyen as a “refreshing, break-the-rules writer” and Time Out Chicago named his play, She Kills Monsters, one of the 10 Best Plays of 2013.
On Tuesday, Feb. 11, all UM students, faculty, staff and members of the local community are invited to attend a free reading from Nguyen’s play, Men of Steel, and a talk with Nguyen. The reading and talk will begin at 7 p.m. in LeBaron Recital Hall, and will be followed by a reception and book signing in the Fraser Seminar Room. LeBaron and Fraser are both located in Davis Hall on campus. UM students will have the opportunity to attend an open forum with Nguyen Wednesday, Feb. 12, to discuss living as an artist in New York City.
Launched in 1939, the Dancy Lecture Series brings a distinguished scholar of literature or the language arts to the UM campus every two years.
