MONTEVALLO—Sarah Lifer of Huntsville, a senior at the University of Montevallo, has received a scholarship from Order of Omega, a national leadership honor society for members of campus sororities and fraternities. Lifer, who is pursuing a major in mass communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in public relations, is a member of the Zeta Nu chapter of Delta Gamma sorority at UM.
Lifer has held a number of leadership positions within her sorority including director of scholarship, director of public relations and director of recruitment records. She also has served as secretary of the Panhellenic Council.
An outstanding scholar, Lifer received a salutatorian scholarship to attend UM, has received “Highest Honors,” and will graduate cum laude in 2013.
Lifer is active in the Student Government Association and other university organizations including Omicron Delta Kappa, a leadership honorary; the Student Publications Committee; the National Panhellenic Conference; the UM Library Committee; and Campus Outreach.
Order of Omega, founded in 1959, recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization and within the Greek, campus, and local community. Members are selected from the top three percent of students at each institution. The scholarship program was established in 1985, followed shortly thereafter by the fellowship program in 1988. To date, the organization has awarded more than $1 million and has assisted more than 2,200 individuals in their educational endeavors.
