The University of Montevallo is launching an effort to endow the Cobb Writing Scholarship in memory of distinguished faculty emeritus, William Sledge “Bill” Cobb, who served the University for nearly four decades.
The scholarship will be designated to support students majoring in English at UM.
A native of Eutaw, Alabama, Cobb joined the Alabama College faculty as an English instructor in the fall of 1963, and was shortly thereafter promoted to assistant professor. At the time of his retirement, Cobb was serving as a professor of English and writer-in-residence.
Cobb was an accomplished author and received many prestigious accolades for his work, including the Harper Lee Award from the Alabama Writers’ Forum in 2007. In total, he authored 14 novels and plays during his more than 30 years as a published writer.
