The Alabamian, UM’s student newspaper since 1924, publishes campus news, features and entertainment news. It also provides a forum for the views of members of the University community.

The newspaper gives aspiring journalists, copy editors, photographers and page designers a publication for developing skills in their future careers—and friendships that last a lifetime.

Haas is a communication studies major with minors in public relations and multimedia journalism at the University and will be a senior this upcoming fall. As editor, she will be responsible for overseeing the development of the newspaper’s bi-weekly issues.

In addition to her new position with The Alabamian, she is also an active member of the University’s Honors Program, treasurer for UM’s chapter of URGE (Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity), a Great Start peer mentor, orientation leader and student writer for University Relations.

“The Alabamian has been an integral part of my UM experience, and I couldn’t be more excited to take the reins next year,” said Haas. “I want to make the paper the best it can possibly be.”
