UM accepting donations for professional clothing drive

On March 12, UM will host the annual professional clothing drive event for students to shop for donated business clothes and accessories in preparation for job interviews and other professional opportunities.

The event, now in its third iteration, is hosted by the UM Office of Service Learning, the Career Development Center and Phi Chi Theta business fraternity.

UM is accepting donations from now until Monday, March 5. Needed items include men’s ties, shirts, jackets, slacks, belts and shoes and women’s shirts, jackets, slacks, skirts, dresses and shoes. The program is especially in need of women’s clothes size 10 and up.

During the first event in Fall 2016, approximately 80 students browsed through donations made by close to 40 community members.

Donors can drop off items Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Global Community and Outreach Building (GLOCO) at 845 Valley St. in Montevallo or schedule a pickup by emailing Dr. Amiee Mellon.

“When it comes to interviewing, first impressions are crucial. We love that our organizations have come together to prepare students for these encounters – from the resume to the interview, to the right clothing,” said Mellon.
