Job Description:

Summer Educators are responsible for presenting and demonstrating inquiry-based science programs to campers during summer months. Duties include taking the lead role in the instruction of summer camps for ages 4K – 7th grade by developing and providing appropriate grade level programming, classroom management and instruction. Other responsibilities will include assisting with before/after care and lunch supervision, taking shifts at the High Cycle and at the Shark and Ray Touch Tank as well as assisting on the floor with informal public presentations, demonstrations and exhibit interpretation. Summer Educators may also be trained and scheduled to present Outreaches throughout the state on the weeks they are not teaching camps.

TRAINING IS REQUIRED WEEK OF MAY 28, 2018 – JUNE 1, 2018
CAMPS BEGIN JUNE 4, 2018 AND END AUGUST 3, 2018

Qualifications: Applicant must possess a degree in science, education or related field; have excellent communication and customer service skills; the ability to work well with a variety of people in a fast-paced environment; comfort leading group presentations; and the ability to effectively interpret and communicate science concepts. Additional qualifications include possession of a valid Alabama driver’s license, liability insurance as required by state law and an acceptable motor vehicle report. Physical qualifications include, but are not limited to, the ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift/pull/push objects up to 20 lbs.; hearing/visual acuity; exposure to chemicals/fumes; and the ability to operate a motor vehicle

Position: Early Childhood Education Presenter

Job Description: The Early Childhood Education Presenter is a highly visible team member stationed within Itty Bitty Magic City (IBMC) who greets visitors in a friendly and outgoing manner, keeps the entire area clean and safe at all times, presents programming, models play behavior at exhibits, and encourages parents to engage with their children. This position will rotate throughout the day between cleaning and restaging, greeting and security and program presentations.
Accountabilities and Major Duties
1. Welcome visitors to Itty Bitty Magic City with enthusiasm and in a friendly manner.
2. Continuously restage and clean area and be attentive to broken and missing items.
3. Engage in facilitation of exhibit spaces with families and school groups.
4. Monitor the age requirement in Itty Bitty Magic City and Tot Spot.
5. Monitor capacity limits of area in busy times and control gate entry as needed.
6. Monitor gate entry to ensure no children leave IBMC without an adult.
7. Assist visitors with stroller parking.
8. Hand out helpful information as instructed regarding programming, take home information, etc.
9. Be familiar with the entire center in order to effectively answer questions from visitors.
10. Present programs as assigned by supervisor.
11. Assist in the daily preparation and clean up of programs as instructed.
12. Assist in the daily opening and closing procedures of IBMC.
13. Recognize and respond to the needs of children by using developmentally appropriate techniques.Other Duties
a) Serve as an ambassador for McWane Science Center in the community.
b) Attend meetings and training sessions as requested by supervisor.
c) Perform daily clean-up and maintenance of the facility as needed.
d) Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
e) Be prepared in the safety and emergency procedures in order to assist visitors.
f) Enforce rules of and standards at all times.
Qualifications: 1. Working towards Preschool Certification, a degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or commensurate experience.
2. Previous experience and enthusiasm for working with children 6 and under preferred.
3. Friendly, outgoing and upbeat personality.
4. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
5. Comfort with public speaking.
6. Knowledge of good customer service principles, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a variety of people from various backgrounds and cultures.
7. Must be a self-directed, creative problem solver with excellent follow-through.
8. Ability to engage with children and adults in a friendly, outgoing and professional manner.
9. Must be able and willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays.Minimum Physical Job Qualifications:

Position: S.A.I.L. Specialist

Job Description: The SAIL Project is a collaboration of services including DHR, ACADV, and local domestic violence programs like SafeHouse, to assist DHR clients as well as those in the community who are or have been victims of domestic violence through envelopment of a safety plan that is specific to clients’ needs. Specialist will assist any survivor of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in the provision of services and support. Community/ Follow Up Case Manager provides voluntary case management, advocacy, and safety planning services for survivors of Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault in the community consistent with ACADV, ACAR, and SafeHouse agency standards.

  • Provides case management services to victims of domestic violence/sexual assault who are clients of SafeHouse consistent with ACADV, ACAR, and SafeHouse agency standards.
  • Provide and seek opportunities to educate DHR employees and clients about domestic violence.
  • Distribute brochures and other information to educate the community about domestic violence.
  • Coordinate with SafeHouse staff to ensure services to victims of domestic violence.
  • Provide referral information regarding SafeHouse services to clients
  • Schedule assessments of referred clients in timely manner and provide appropriate resources and services to assist clients in becoming free from violence.
  • Provide initial intake in a timely manner consistent with agency policy.
  • Assist client in evaluating needs; write and implement a case plan that is relevant to the client’s needs while providing relevant education, support and advocacy.
  • Answer hot line calls and provided crisis counseling to victims.
  • Provide/coordinate referrals, support, and transportation and other services as needed or requested.
  • Remain knowledgeable of victim’s rights and the importance of self-determination and empowerment.
  • Provide safety planning to clients and crisis line callers.
  • Serve as a liaison between client and community service agencies in order to meet client’s needs.
  • Create and maintain a current resource log of resources within the community to meet client needs.
  • Coordinate meetings with clients leaving shelter to evaluate their discharge needs and progress and provide information on aftercare services to victims leaving emergency shelter.
  • Plan and implement monthly educational meetings, seminars to assist SafeHouse clients in maintaining independent living.
  • Participate as a member of the SafeHouse Team
  • Assist other programs when needed and does not interfere with the performance of his/her job duties.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and working relationship with all SafeHouse programs.
  • Participate in case review staffing.
  • Model positive interpersonal relations with other clients, staff, and colleagues.
  • Efficiently Maintain Record Keeping and Documentation and prepare monthly reports as requested.
  • Maintain records and statistics for recording to governing bodies as required according to SafeHouse policy
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and licensure, preferred. Good oral and written communication skills to enable effective dealing with the public and resources in the community. Demonstrates positive interpersonal communication skills in order to negotiate plans, dates, and follow-up activates. Also must be able to make presentations to e general public when called upon.

Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Computer (Microsoft Office Programs a must) Valid Alabama Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date), automobile, automobile insurance and willingness to use said automobile in performing duties.
