Experiencing poverty: Simulation gives participants taste of hardships

The University worked in conjunction with Alabama Possible to offer a free community poverty simulation at the Shelby County Schools Instructional Services Center on June 29. The simulation allowed many Shelby County teachers to witness the issues that many of their students living below the poverty level experience. Students in the UM President’s Outdoor Scholars Program worked with Alabama Power to deploy Christmas trees at Beeswax Landing on Lay Lake earlier this spring.
