Meet the Junior Alumni Board

OFFICERS:


Kacie Slaughter Kilpatrick ’09 | President

  • Kacie graduated with an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from Montevallo in 2009 and a master’s degree in Communication Management from UAB in 2019. During her time at UM, she was Gold Side Leader, Miss Montevallo, and an active member of Chi Omega. She currently serves as the Director of Recruitment, Scholarships, and Student Engagement for the School of Education at UAB.

Clark Maxwell ’13 | Vice-President and Chair of the Nominations Committee 

  • While at Montevallo, Clark was involved in College Night in multiple roles, including serving as Gold Side Leader, Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity, and was active with the Art and COMS Departments. He currently works in the Marketing Department at the Birmingham Zoo and lives in the Birmingham area.
Lindsay Shippey ’13 | Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee

  • A member of UM’s Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Lindsay Moore Shippey was involved in the Stephens College of Business. She now lives in Birmingham and works at Regions Bank in Commercial Banking.

Isaac McDow ’10 | Secretary and Communications Chair

  • Isaac graduated with a degree in Business Management from Montevallo in 2010. While at UM, he was Mr. Montevallo, Gold Side cast and cabinet member, orientation leader, tour guide, housing office staff, and an active member of Alpha Kappa Lambda. Isaac is currently a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty serving the greater Birmingham area. He resides in Birmingham with his wife Erin ’11 and two children, Liam and Lydia.

Christina Powell ’10 | Social Chair

  • While at Montevallo, Christina was a proud Purple and worked in Housing and Residence Life. Currently, she lives in Birmingham and is an Underwriting Analyst at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
Cortez Bennett ’12 | Special Events Chair

  • Cortez served as an SGA Senator for the College of Business, SGA Treasurer, President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), and as an Orientation Leader during his time at Montevallo. Currently, he is a Credit Analyst at Regions Bank for the commercial banking group, and lives in Birmingham.

Morgan Alford ’18

  • As a student at UM, Morgan was involved with the Admissions Office, Gold Side cabinet and cheer and Phi Mu’s executive board. She is now working at UAB as a second-year Admissions Counselor where she is also completing a Masters in Communication Management with a certificate in Nonprofit Management.

Zachary Banks ’08

  • A Birmingham native, Zach obtained a B.A. in Vocal Music (’08) and a B.M. in Choral Music Education (’12). While at UM, Zach was active in Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, IVOC, as a DJ (“DJ Showtime”) and playing College Night as a Purple where he and Co-Leader, Kelsey Sherrer Crawford, led their side to a victory and win in 2008. Currently, Zach is still active as the PA Announcer for UM Basketball, the Alabama Vocal Association (AVA) District III Chairman and Director of the Choral and Piano Department at his alma mater, Ramsay IB High School.
Donnie Bennett ’17

Megan Traweek Davis ’11

  • Megan graduated from UM with degrees in Mathematics and Communication Studies. While at the university, she served in the SGA as Freshman Forum President, Higher Ed Day Coordinator, and Student Trustee. Other involvement also included serving as President of Lambda Pi Eta (Communications Honor Society). Currently, she works for Avadian Credit Union as an Accounting Specialist. She currently lives in Calera – which is conveniently not too far from Montevallo.

Jacob Guyton ’15

  • Jacob is a graduate of the Michael E. Stephens College of Business, with a BBA in Marketing and an MBA in 2018. While a student at the University, Jacob served as Vice-President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, SGA Senator, Resident Assistant, Wind Ensemble/Jazz Band and much more. Currently, he serves as the Marketing Specialist for the Birmingham Airport Authority and lives in Birmingham.

Candyce Hughston ’10

  • Candyce Hughston was a member of the SGA, tutored and mentored in the Upward Bound program, was a McNair Scholar, Resident Assistant in Housing and Residence Life, and was Miss Montevallo in 2010. Married to her college sweetheart, Terry Hughston (also a 2010 graduate of UM), they reside in Northport where she serves as a foster care social worker.
Amber James ’17

  • Amber is a graduate of the Family and Consumer Science program and the Counseling program. She was a Falcon Scholar, a part of the FCS Student Group, Golden Key International Honor Society, Chi Sigma Iota (Counseling Honor Society) and a Student Alumni Ambassador (now FAM). After serving as an AmeriCorps State member for two years, she is the Success Coach with Thrive Together Shelby County and an Outpatient Therapist at IMPACT Family Counseling. Amber is an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and the Junior League of Birmingham.
Lizbeth Juarez ’18

  • Lizbeth graduated with a Bachelor in Business administration in Management and Finance and minors in economics and MIS. While at UM, she had the opportunity to serve as SGA President 2017-2018, in addition to being involved in Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and Phi Chi Theta business professional fraternity. She currently lives in Hoover and works for the University as Staff Accountant while also pursuing her MBA.
Savannah Kitchens ’09

  • Savannah received her B.A. in English in 2009. As a student, she was dedicated to College Night, serving as cast member, cabinet member, and Purple Side Leader. After graduating, Savannah received her Master in Library and Information Science from Dominican University in 2011 and has worked in Alabama public libraries ever since. Today, she is proud to serve her community as the director of the Parnell Memorial Library in Montevallo. She lives in Montevallo with husband, fellow alum James Kitchens ’10 and their two children, Stella and Sam.

The Rev. Brandt L. Montgomery ’07

  • Brandt’s Montevallo experience consisted of several activities: Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, The Student Government Association, the Intrafraternity Council, UM Wind Ensemble, UM Jazz Ensemble, Phi Alpha Theta National History Honorary, and College Night (GV!). Since Montevallo, he graduated from The General Theological Seminary in New York City with a Master of Divinity and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Currently, he serves as Chaplain of Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Marcus Moore ’19

  • Marcus holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies. In college, he was a very dedicated member of the Gold Side, a Montevallo Maven, orientation leader and member of the Concert Choir. He currently serves as a high school and transfer Admissions Counselor at his beloved alma mater, and is very honored to be on the Junior Board.
Jennifer Travis-Scott Nelson ’09

  • As a student, Jennifer was involved in the McNair Scholars Program, Inspirational Voices of Christ (IVOC), University Program Council (UPC), Volunteer Corp, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Gamma Phi Delta Sorority. She obtained the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work with a minor in Psychology from UM and a Master in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 2012. Currently, she resides in Trussville, where she is a Medical Social Worker in Behavioral Health at St. Vincent’s East Hospital.”
Danielle Parks ’19

  • Danielle graduated from the College of Arts and Science where she majored in Interdisciplinary Studies; a unique opportunity to create your degree. Her concentration was Human Relations & Management. As a student, her best memories include Purple Side cheerleader (PV), Best Buddies, National Society of Leadership and Success, Freshman Forum (SGA) and Phi Chi Theta. Currently, she is enrolled as a graduate student in the UM College of Education and Human Development studying Couples and Family Counseling. She is also employed in the College of Education as well.
Nick Rivers ’17

  • While earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in music, Nick was an active member of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity, Montevallo Mavens, undergraduate research and the Gold Side pit orchestra. Nick is currently training to be a physician at UAB School of Medicine and plans to begin a residency in otolaryngology upon graduation in 2021.
Crystal Roskam ’16

  • Crystal graduated with a B.S. in Communication Studies and M.A. in Couples and Family Counseling. As a student, she worked in the Alumni Office and served as Student Alumni Ambassador Coordinator (now FAM). Crystal currently works as the Transfer Admissions Counselor at the University and coordinates the continuUM Transfer Program which she developed for the University, partnering with select community colleges in Alabama. 
Lindsey Folsom Underwood ’10

  • Lindsey earned a Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education from UM. In college, she was a proud member of the Gold Side as conductor, composer, and other musical roles. She is also a member of the Zeta Delta chapter of Alpha Delta Pi and served in many officer positions while at UM. Currently, she is the band director at Northridge Middle School in Tuscaloosa as well as the Music Director at First United Methodist Church in Montevallo. She resides in Alabaster with her husband, B.J. and their two dogs, Andy and Ollie.
Rebecca White ’15

  • Rebecca graduated with a BFA in Art, concentrating in graphic design. During her time on campus, she was involved with many organizations and activities serving as editor-in-chief of Montage, an orientation leader and stage manager for Gold Side, to name a few. She is currently working as a graphic artist at Mspark in Helena, Alabama. Rebecca has also received the honor of winning six Graphic Design USA In-House Design Awards with her work at Mspark.
