Instrumental Performance

Woodwinds, brass, percussion, guitar, strings

The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree is the professional approach to the music major for the student who wants a strong foundation in music, combined with in-depth training in specific aspects of the art.

Performance concentrates will present a junior half recital and a senior full recital. Students concentrating in performance will also take four semesters in a secondary performance area of study. Instrumentalists may satisfy this requirement with MUP 129 Class Piano I, MUP 130 Class Piano II, MUP 229 Class Piano III, and MUP 230 Class Piano IV.

The Suggested Course of Study guide provides a roadmap to a given undergraduate degree program. These guides are highly useful advising tools, particularly to incoming freshmen and to those students earning their first baccalaureate degree at UM.

All-Steinway School
In fall 2007, UM’s piano program in the Department of Music received an “All-Steinway” designation. Through a very generous donation from a local business, UM music students have the very finest of pianos upon which to practice and perform.
