Theatre BFA Degree Plan – Design/Technology Concentration

Design/Technology students are exposed to a variety of skills in different areas including sound, costumes, make-up, lighting and stage management, while having the opportunity for a specific Design/Technology emphasis; including construction, rendering, computer-aided drafting and hands-on exposure to new materials and techniques in live performance and film.

Students have the opportunity to learn and work in the new state of the art Center for the Arts.

Design/Technology majors are also taught how to collaborate effectively with directors and other designers. You will have the opportunity to build a competitive design/tech portfolio through diverse class projects as well as pursue assistant and full design opportunities on large and small theatre productions.

Stage Managers gain experience every semester and are mentored in class and working on productions throughout their time at UM.

Design/Technology graduates have worked professionally at theatres such as The Shakespeare Theatre of NJ, Shenandoah Music Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, AL Shakespeare Festival, Glimmerglass Opera, Serenebe Playhouse, PCPA Theatrefest, Stagedoor Manor Theatre Camp, Red Mountain Theatre Company, A BRONX TALE national tour and Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas. B.F.A. alumni have received full scholarships to the MFA Design Programs at the University of Illinois, University of Ohio and Illinois State University.
