Elementary Education

A child’s mind is full of curiosity and wonder. Outstanding teachers know how to continually inspire children to explore, to ask questions and to create new knowledge. Here at UM, we expect nothing less of our Elementary Education majors. In addition to a bachelor’s degree, our undergraduates are eligible for the Class B teaching certificate that is required to teach in Alabama K-6 classrooms. After a full-time public school internship during the senior year, they’re ready for every challenge they’ll face in the elementary school setting.

Degree Plan 2017-2018

Sometimes we don’t figure out our life path the first time around in college.  The Alternative Master’s Degree in Elementary Education allows returning students to earn an advanced degree while also fulfilling the requirements for initial certification to teach.

For practicing elementary classroom teachers, the Traditional Master’s Degree Program in Elementary Education is a perfect way to deepen one’s knowledge and learn the advanced skills that define a “master teacher.”

Congratulations to Dr. Jenifer Williams on receiving the Ernest Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award!
